Wacom Community Thank You Postcard Design Contest

Thank you to all entrants to the Wacom Thank You Postcard Design Contest!

Congratulations to the four winners of the Wacom "Thank You" Postcard Design Contest! Co-sponsored by Ballistic Publishing, the Design Contest ended December 21, 2007 with 380 entries. On January 30, 2008, the winners were chosen after a long, difficult selection process. Winners will receive art books from Ballistic Publishing in addition to Wacom tablets and displays. In addition, one or more of the winning artworks will be chosen to be printed as postcards later this year.

Melani's artwork, "Deeply Thank You," received unanimous applause from Wacom's judging panel for its quiet story, detailed texture, and the ironic juxtaposition of a cute girl and a happy cat bearing a gift against the dystopic surroundings reminded us of what it truly means to say "Thank You". Appreciation is often most sincere when it is borne out of desolation.

While Melani's subtlety won us over, Hanswork's originality literally shouted out to us at maximum volume. Bright, cheerful, and open-hearted (pun intended), we just couldn't resist handing "ThankQ" a thumbs up for the daring directness of the metaphors contained within.

Fun Prize winner
Prize: Bamboo Fun (small, silver) pen tablet, Ballistic Publishing art book

Title: The Artist Inside
Winner: Riclim
Country: Malaysia

Although Riclim's "The Artist Inside" wasn't the only entry utilizing Escher-like paradox, blending the boundaries between art and reality, and in this case art history. Wacom's pen tablets are part of a long history of artistic tools, borrowing and building upon its predecessors.

Title: Growing up with Wacom
Winner: ming-chi cheng
Country: Taiwan

Ming-chi Cheng's "Growing up with Wacom" embodied a more personal history--that of the artist as he moves from one frame of his life to another. We liked the simplicity of the story and of the sketch, a perfect blend of serious self-reflection and light-hearted cartoonish style.
